Dr Miquel Sans has been working in inflammatory bowel diseases for the last 25 years and is recognized worldwide as a KOL in the field.

Dr Miquel Sans did his residency in digestive diseases and his doctoral thesis in Inflammatory Bowel Disease at the University de Barcelona, followed by a post-doctoral stay, with a Fulbright Grant, at the Gastroenterology Department of the Case Western Reserve University (Cleveland, USA).

After his return from the USA, he worked as Ramon y Cajal Researcher and later as Senior Researcher at Hospital Clinic, Barcelona, before joining full time at Centro Médico Teknon.

He has been member of the American Gastroenterology Association and member of the Scientific Committee of the European Crohn’s and colitis organization (ECCO). He is at present member of the Spanish IBD Group board.

He has been member of the Editorial Board and reviewer of more than 20 top scientific journals, and he has also been project evaluator for the European Commission (6th and 7th Framework Programs) as well as for the Agencia Nacional de Evaluación y Propectiva (ANEP, Spain), Fondo de Investigación Sanitaria (FIS, Spain), among many others.

He is author of more than 170 indexed publications in journals such as Lancet, Nature Genetics, British Medical Journal, Journal of Clinical Investigation, American Journal of Physiology, Gastroenterology, Gut and American Journal of Gastroenterology, among many others (total IF >1000).

He has given more than 500 Congress presentations and invited lectures over the world and has been investigator of more than 20 grants, being the Principal Investigator of the European Project "IBD Chip" (6th FP, with a 3,4-million-euro budget and 9 countries involved for 4 years).
